Feel at Home: creating a peaceful tomorrow
In the face of the horrific violence in Sri Lanka over this most peaceful weekend, Spectrum again stands firmly to denounce any act of hatred motivated by difference and extremist beliefs.
We extend our heartfelt sympathy to the victims, their families, and their communities both in Sri Lanka and here in Australia. We have been delighted to work with the Australian Sri-Lankan community over the years and appreciate the peace they seek, and the joy with which they contribute to Australian life.
Barely a month ago, presented with another attack on innocent worshippers, we re-committed our endeavor to achieving our core purpose, that feeling at home should be for everyone. Today, and every day, we call upon our fellow global citizens to celebrate difference peacefully and courageously.
Our team are proudly as culturally diverse as the people we serve. Our experienced, compassionate and dedicated team speak over 50 languages, and work at the grassroots of one of the most multicultural cities on the planet. We also acknowledge that diversity and inclusion is a mindset that has no religion and no ethnicity – it can belong to all, and it can overcome the deepest of rifts, if we as a society, choose it at a community level.
For over 37 years, Spectrum has worked hard to provide services to enable people of refugee and migrant backgrounds to feel at home in Australia. Today, we must unite and work harder than ever.
Spectrum will continue to create inclusion to combat division, to work hard to create belonging and understanding that contribute everyday to a more peaceful world, and to unite in a movement that matters, #feelathome.
