DID YOU KNOW: Some of the first Spectrum clients who arrived in Australia in the 1980s are now, in their senior years, members of our Aged Care services!
Spectrum Migrant Resource Centre was the major sponsor of this year’s Sunshine Business Awards Gala.
A celebration of Sunshine
Sunshine, in Melbourne’s west, isn’t just one of our most diverse communities. It’s also a booming commercial centre, with years of exciting developments planned and a thriving business community. Additionally, nearly 75% of Sunshine’s population are first or second-generation migrants – many with community connections to Spectrum.
Two of our expert Migration team, Registered Migration Agents Richard Wu and Luke Lu, joined the Spectrum team in sponsoring the 2026 Sunshine Business Awards, hosted by the Sunshine Business Association and Aussie Home Loans Sunshine.
This fabulous gala event was an opportunity to recognise and celebrate successful local businesses of all sizes, with a gorgeous spread of catering from Gaskos House of Fresh.
Community stories
Spectrum General Manager of Settlement and Migration, Paul Ingham, was honoured to present our winning businesses with their awards and to reflect on Spectrum’s 46 year-long history of supporting migrants and refugees in Melbourne’s north west.
And throughout the evening, many business owners and professionals shared their own stories with us.
Why trust matters
Sunshine’s migrant-owned businesses are diverse – from law firms and barbers to cafés and banks.
Yet, many had something in common: the frustrations and challenges of their own past migration journeys.
Some spoke of their experiences with other migration services that were expensive or unethical, of getting incorrect information that delayed their visa, or the difficulty of rejections and appeals.
Meanwhile, legal and community services had challenges finding proven, trusted Migration services that were actually affordable for clients needing visa advice or help to stay living in Australia – knowing their own reputation is at stake.
No matter the business, we could all agree on one thing – in communities like Sunshine, trust is the most valuable thing we have to offer.
So it was touching to hear that some attendees event remembered Spectrum has part of their own refugee settlement journey – making their success even more of a celebration for our team.
And this was a reminder of why we offer the kind of Migration service that we do – affordable and ethical – so all who need it can access it.
Where success starts
For Spectrum, Migration isn’t just a transaction. It’s about opening up a future that might otherwise be difficult to attain.
It’s about seeing people we’ve supported to settle here, become community leaders.
It’s about advocating for easier skilled migration, and re-uniting families and spouses.
So they can focus on their future, while we take care of the rest.
Looking forward
This week’s Sunshine Business Awards was just that – a celebration of what our community has achieved and what lies ahead.
We’re not only excited about the future of Sunshine as one of Melbourne’s most important commercial and community hubs, but also about helping the community grow though local, affordable Visa and PR services.
Congratulations to the award winners, and thank you to our event partners, supporters and guests! We’re proud to be a champion of the local business community.
And if you’re new in Sunshine, take a look at the fantastic shops, suppliers and services in the local area.
