assistance with care and housing

Finding sustainable housing for low-income older people from migrant backgrounds.

We offer free assistance to low-income older people from migrant backgrounds who are having trouble getting secure housing.

Our bilingual and bicultural staff work together with individuals, families and service providers in order to help people find and keep suitable housing, while also maintaining vital social and community connections.

Who the program is for

The program is designed to help older people 65 years and over, from migrant backgrounds (or 50 years and over from Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islands) dealing with:

  • an inability to live in private accommodation because of complex health issues;
  • low income;
  • a high rental increase;
  • a notice to vacate;
  • family breakdown;
  • a need to live close to family members for support and health care reasons; and
  • homelessness or  who are at risk of homelessness.

To access the program, you must be living in Darebin, Whittlesea, Banyule and Yarra.
