Community Development

Culturally inclusive programs

We understand that each community has unique needs. That’s why we tailor our programs to ensure cultural relevance and meaningful impact.

We regularly consult with the communities we work with to identify their needs and then co-design activities and programs to address those needs, ensuring meaningful participation and sustainability.

For example, our Working in a New Culture program supports newly arrived migrants and refugees as they adjust to Australian workplaces. We:

  • Design sessions that target specific cultural groups.
  • Engage bi-cultural workers to ensure the program reflects the lived experiences and challenges of participants.
  • Provide practical tools to help individuals succeed in their new work environments.

Another example is our Social Support Groups for Seniors. Each week we run group sessions for nine different cultural groups, with activities and meals tailored to meet cultural preferences.

This culturally responsive approach ensures that our programs meet the real needs of the communities we serve.

Stronger connected communities

Through all our initiatives, Spectrum fosters a sense of belonging and supports communities in creating a future where they can thrive.

One example of this approach is the Camp with Scouts and Refugee Youth which will run later in 2025. Spectrum and 5th Brunswick Scouts will run a camp with refugee teenagers and Venturers (Scouts aged 15-18) to exchange culture, camping and a love of the outdoors.

Whether through leadership development, employment support, or advocacy training, we are committed to empowering people to take charge of their own journeys.

We invite new and emerging communities to contact us. Together, we can discuss your needs and goals and find ways to support you.
