Working in a New Culture

How we help

Working in a New Culture (WINC) is a group program that consists of 5 x 2-hour sessions.

It is aimed at newly arrived migrants who want to learn about working culture in Australia and who would like some useful information and tools to make their employment journey as smooth and successful as possible.

WINC includes topics about:

  • workplace culture
  • employee and employer expectations
  • applying for jobs
  • the hidden job market
  • resumes and interviews
  • employment rights and the law
  • employment pathways, and much more.

Each program consists of 7-10 participants, with program adjustments to accommodate community needs.

Who is it for?

People who have arrived in Australia in the last five years.

Where and when

WINC programs are conducted at our Dallas and Sunshine offices, four times a year.

One session each year will focus on women.

We can also run programs for partner organisations, either at our office or at their own venue.

Upcoming program

The next WINC program will be conducted in Term 2, 2025.

Stay tuned for updates!

FAQs

No, WINC is free for clients eligible for the Settlement Engagement and Transition Support program (ie arrived in the last five years).
Unfortunately, we are unable to provide childcare as part of the WINC program due to budget limitations. We understand this may be a challenge for some, and we’re exploring ways to address this in the future.
If you miss a session, please notify us in advance if possible. Attendance is important to ensure you receive the full benefits of the program. We can discuss options for making up missed sessions on a case-by-case basis.
“I can’t say enough how important employment is for a new migrant or refugee as an element of good settlement. After many rejections, clients say they feel ‘hopeless, useless, worthless’. But once they get a job – they are over the moon. They walk with their head held high.”
