The Dads and Kids Sports Squad started as the Hume Fathers Playgroup. It was created after a Parenting in a New Culture (PINC) for Fathers program when we got more funding so that we could continue to support dads and their kids.

The program has been running for more than two years.

At first, it was a swimming program and in 2024, we added more sports so dads and kids could try new activities.

Right now, the group is learning pickle ball and tennis with a tennis coach who speaks Farsi and Chaldean.

The Dads and Kids Sports Squad helps migrant and refugee families by:

• Spending quality time together – building stronger, healthier relationships.
• Trying different sports – learning new skills in a fun way.
• Staying active – improving health and wellbeing.
• Meeting other dads – social time after class to talk about parenting, settlement, housing, and jobs.
• Learning about gender equality – understanding the father’s role in parenting.
• Giving mums a break – some free time for mothers.

The Dads and Kids Sports Squad is for:

• Migrant and refugee fathers with children aged 3 to 6 years.
• Families living in the City of Hume.
• Low-income families (priority given).

Past PINC participants are welcome.

The Dads and Kids Sports Squad is funded by Uniting VicTas through the Hume Communities for Children program.
