Parenting in a New Culture (PINC)

How do we help?

Parenting in a New Culture (PINC) is a six-week group program that helps migrant parents understand parenting in Australia while respecting their cultural background.

PINC is designed for parents from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds. It supports them in adjusting to family life in a new country, building confidence, and strengthening family relationships.

A trained bi-cultural worker runs the weekly sessions with a Spectrum facilitator. They help explain the information in a way that is easy to understand and relevant to your culture.

PINC also offers a ‘Focus on Fathers‘ program especially for migrant Dads.

What you will learn

Parents will talk, share experiences, and learn about:

  • Parenting in a new culture – understanding the differences between Australia and your home country.
  • Children’s development – how the brain grows and learns.
  • Schools and laws – understanding education and legal rights in Australia
  • Teenagers – how to support and communicate with them.
  • Stress management – coping strategies for a healthy family.

Who is it for?

Migrants and refugees who have come to Australia as adults with their children. Some may also have had additional children in Australia.

“As a mother of four children, I found this group to be immensely supportive. Gathering together with other mothers to share stories and reflection of our parenting experience was very nourishing, along with the range of information, strategies and community connections offered in the program.”
