humanitarian settlement program

helping humanitarian entrants to settle in Australia.

Our humanitarian settlement program offers early, practical support to help newly arrived refugees settle into their local community.

How we can help

The support we offer varies depending on each person’s needs and can include:

  • Welcoming people when they first arrive in Australia
  • Help in finding accommodation
  • Providing an initial food package and start-up set of household goods
  • Assistance in registering with Centrelink, Medicare, health services, banks and schools
  • Linking with community and recreational programs

Who we can help

We can only give these services to people referred to us by the Department of Social Services as soon as they arrive in Australia.

They also need to have arrives on one of these visas:

  • Refugee visa – subclasses 200, 201, 203 and 204
  • Special Humanitarian visa – subclass 202
