Feel at Home: a movement that matters, now more than ever

Spectrum strongly condemns the act of terror targeting the Islamic community of Christchurch, on Friday 15th March.  We extend our heartfelt sympathy to the victims, their families, and their communities.

More broadly, Spectrum firmly denounces any act of hatred motivated by difference and extremist beliefs.

Spectrum has zero tolerance of racism, in speech, thought or deed, and we will speak and act without fear to challenge those who contravene this core value.  We will act to call out racism when we see it, hear it and experience it.

For over 37 years, Spectrum has worked hard to provide services to enable people of refugee and migrant backgrounds to feel at home in Australia.  Today, we must unite and work harder than ever. Our team are proudly as culturally diverse as the people we serve.   Our experienced, compassionate and dedicated team speak over 50 languages, and work at the grassroots of one of the most multicultural cities on the planet.

Spectrum believes that the joy and richness of social cohesion is woven into society by the diversity we all bring.  For Australia, and for Spectrum, embracing difference, and celebrating it, is one of the key tenets to maximising our collective potential.  For Spectrum, we have enshrined this sentiment in one of our core values: Be Different and Be One.

Bernie Nott, Spectrum CEO reiterates, “Spectrum works with, and alongside people of many faiths, including those who identify as Muslim, and our collective experience is enhanced by everyone’s inclusion.  Freedom of religion, belief, conscience and thought are a human right, and we stand firm in our support of this.  Today, and every day, we call upon our fellow Australians to embrace our differences peacefully and courageously.

In the face of this atrocity lets unite in a movement that matters, #feelathome.

We believe that Feeling at Home, has at its foundations, safety and the opportunity to thrive.

We plan on re-doubling our endeavor to achieve this for everyone.

It matters now, even more than ever.
